Why should I use a solicitor to make my Will?

In this day and age, everything can be done on the cheap. Need new glasses?  Order online! Want a cheap meal?  Find a voucher! Some people even sell their houses themselves to save the estate agents fee or advertise their car on ebay.  Anything to cut out the middleman and the associated extra costs.

We all love a bargain BUT there are some things that are worth paying for, a properly drafted Will being one of them.

As a solicitor, I have seen many a homemade Will, duly completed by an enthusiastic amateur lawyer.  I have spoken to many gleeful clients who tell me proudly that they have purchased a Will from the internet or a shop, filled it out and saved themselves a packet!

Except that actually, they haven’t.  Saved themselves a packet that is, because most of the time, home made Wills are badly drafted leaving disappointed relatives and in more serious cases, enormous legal fees to try and sort out the mess.

I wouldn’t offer to look under the bonnet of my client’s car, or try my hand at fixing a leaky tap. I know my limitations and understand that some things are best left to the experts.  Your Will is simply too important to bodge, and worth every penny it may cost.
