UK/EU Data Protection

EU member states have agreed two “adequacy” decisions for the UK’s Data Protection laws.  This means that, subject to formal adoption of the decision by the European Commission, which is expected to take place before the end of June 2021, the UK’s existing Data Protection laws provide sufficient protection for personal data flowing from the EU to the UK.  This means that additional protections do not need to be put into place for data transfers so properly drafted current policies that UK employers currently have in place do not need to be changed for these purposes.  This is especially important for UK companies with group or associated companies in the EU member states.
