How to avoid divorce over Christmas!

  • 1 .        Don’t be unrealistic about what Christmas will bring to your family or relationship. It can be a magical time but it won’t perform miracles.
  • 2          Relationships take work and especially if things are not good between you Christmas can make things harder.
  • 3          “In vino veritas”- if you can’t trust yourself not to say something damaging after a few glasses – don’t have the glasses!
  • 4          Do be realistic about the financial cost of Christmas. Sometimes the extra cost can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back..
  • 5          Don’t drink too much or otherwise embarrass yourself at the office Christmas party. There used to be some graffiti in the Magistrates’ Court saying “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime”.
  • 6           Be realistic about how long family should stay for. Guests like fish go off after three days.
  • 7          Our  younger advisers remind us that more screens – whether TV, PC or tablet - are needed in the house for different Christmas TV watching!
  • 8          Don’t expect one person to do all the work.
  • 9          Take time to chill out!
  • 10        If all fails, we re-open on 3rd January.
