Divorce Cases Increase After Rule Change

The Law Society Gazette has reported that the courts have received 3,000 divorce petitions in the first week since the shift to no-fault divorce petitions. This is a 50% rise on an average week in 2021.

107,724 divorce petitions were filed in 2021 which gives an average of 2,072 per week.

The Court Service changed its IT process in the run up to the change in the law. In general that seems to have worked reasonably well with comparatively few hiccups.
