Big Hitting Litigation Lawyers

SME Solicitors are always keen to support and promote youth sports in the County.  So we were delighted when former England rounders cap turned Litigation Solicitor, Claire Bentick, offered to help local primary school pupils hit the mark with some expert coaching.

Claire Bentick, now a lawyer at SME Solicitors in Worcester put year 3 and 4 pupils from Norton Juxta Kempsey (NJK) First School in Littleworth through their paces with some tips and techniques.

Claire, who played for England ladies’ rounders’ team during her late teens had herself been playing the popular sport since primary school before developing her talent to national status.   Claire, who originally trained as a Criminal Defence Lawyer, retrained as a Commercial lawyer several years ago and joined the SME Solicitors’ Litigation team last year.

“Spending the afternoon with the NJK pupils was great fun,” Claire admits.  “Their enthusiasm was fantastic and they were quick to take up some of the techniques I showed them.  The children and the teachers had lots of questions and it was a pleasure to meet them all.  Rounders is a quintessentially English Summer sport, and playing it on the village school’s playing fields just added to the enjoyment.”

Year three pupil Charlie Sheppard, aged 8 from Norton said:  “We have rounders club every week and I always try to hit a rounder.  Claire showed us how to stand differently to hit it better and how to improve your fielding -if you are trying to catch someone out.”

NJK Head Teacher Julia Dean:  “Thanks to Claire and her colleague Yvonne for coming in to spend time with the pupils.  These sort of activities are great for improving the children’s confidence and abilities and they love meeting new people.”
