GOVERNMENT REVIEW OF THE MODERN SLAVERY ACT 2015

The Home Office has annouced it will be launching an independent review of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. The review will be led by Frank Field MP, Baroness Butler-Sloss and Maria Miller MP.

It is anticipated the review may make suggestions for additional measures to be implemented, to assist the government in tackling this evolving crime.

At present, businesses that operate in the UK, and who have a turnover of at least £36 million, are required to publish a statement every financial year, setting out the steps they have taken to ensure that they, and their supply chains, are slavery free.

The turnover calculation considers both that of the organisation and any of its subsidaries.

Large businesses with a lower turnover are encourage to adopt an anti-slavery policy and many issue statements voluntarily if they are supplying to those businesses which have a duty to publish one.
