SME drives festive food for thought

In the run up to Christmas, SME Solicitors is taking part in a Food Drive for the Worcester Foodbank.

The aim is to fill the boot of the SME Solicitors’ car with food essentials and treats which the city centre law firm will then drive to the Worcester Foodbank in Lowesmoor Wharf on 19th December 2016 in time for Christmas.

The firm is also inviting clients, contacts, friends and family to get involved in the Food Drive and drop by with a donation to its office at 8 Sansome Walk, Worcester.

SME Solicitor’s Managing Partner Yvonne Tivey comments: “As a firm, we are great believers in working together on different community initiatives. This charity is a popular choice amongst our Partners and staff who are all keen to collect as much as possible. We are already gathering a lot of food but there’s always room for more in the boot of the car, so anyone wanting to support this charity, please come by – even a tin of beans will be appreciated!”

Three areas of Worcester are in the top 10% most deprived areas in the country, with 17% of children estimated to live in poverty.

Worcester Foodbank opened in June 2012 to provide people in crisis with emergency 3 day food parcels.

Over the last 12 months (Sep 2015 – Sep 2016) Worcester Foodbank has provided 4,973 3-day food parcels, an increase of 33% compared to the year before.

They have given away over 157 tonnes of food, providing around 175,000 meals, and other essential supplies, such as toiletries and baby goods, all of which has all been generously donated by the local community.
